How to Clean and Backwash the Sand Filter Regularly?

Regular backwashing is essential to maintain high filtration efficiency and keep your pool water crystal clear. Poolking recommends backwashing your sand filter every 5–10 days, or when the pressure gauge on the pump side rises by approximately 0.2 bar above the normal reading after the last backwash.

Step-by-step backwashing procedure:

1. Stop the pump completely.
2. Close the suction and return line valves.
3. Open the pump cover to release air if needed, then refit it securely.
4. Open the drain outlet valve.
5. Turn the multiport valve to BACKWASH position.
6. Open the suction and return valves, then start the pump. Rinse for 1–2 minutes until the sight glass water runs clear.
7. Stop the pump, switch the valve to RINSE, and run for 15–30 seconds.
8. Stop the pump again, turn the valve to FILTER position (normal operation), close the drain valve, and restart the pump.

Important Safety Notes: Always stop the pump before switching the multiport valve to avoid damaging the internal O-rings. Turn off any electric heater during backwashing.
