What Is Waste Setting on Pool Filter?

If you're a pool owner, you're probably familiar with the pool filter. This essential piece of pool equipment is responsible for keeping your pool water clean and free of debris, bacteria, and other contaminants. To work effectively, your pool filter has different settings, including the waste setting. But what exactly is waste setting on pool filter? In this article, we'll break down what the waste setting is, when to use it, and why it's important.

Understanding Your Pool Filter

Before diving into the waste setting on your pool filter, it's essential to understand how your pool filter works. The pool filter is like a giant strainer that captures all the debris and impurities in your pool water. The filter has different parts, including a pump, a motor, and different filter media, including sand, diatomaceous earth (DE), or cartridge filters.

Your pool pump pulls water from your pool and sends it through the pool filter media, where it's trapped and removed from the water. The filtered water is then sent back to your pool through the return jets, and the cycle continues.

What Is Waste Setting On Pool Filter?

Now that you have a basic understanding of your pool filter let's talk about the waste setting. The waste setting is a feature found in most sand and DE pool filters. The waste setting allows you to bypass your pool filter and send water directly to the waste line. It's an essential feature to have when your pool water is excessively dirty and needs to be drained or when you need to vacuum your pool using the "drain and close" method.

When you switch your filter to the waste setting, water that would usually go through the filter goes straight to the waste line. Because of this, you'll want to make sure that you're monitoring your water level when you use the waste setting. If you're in a drought-prone area or experiencing water restrictions, you'll want to be mindful of the amount of water you're draining.

When to Use Waste Setting On Pool Filter?

As mentioned above, you'll want to use the waste setting on your pool filter when your pool's water level is high, and you need to drain some of the water out of the pool quickly. The waste setting is also helpful when your pool is excessively dirty, and your filter can't keep up with the cleaning process.

Another time to use the waste setting is when you're vacuuming your pool using the "drain and close" method. This method is useful when vacuuming debris from the bottom of your pool, and the debris is too large for your pool filter to capture effectively.

Why Is Waste Setting On Pool Filter Important?

The waste setting on your pool filter is important for a few reasons. First, it allows you to remove dirty water from your pool quickly, which is especially helpful if you need to drain your pool for maintenance, or if your pool is excessively dirty.

Additionally, the waste setting allows you to vacuum your pool using the "drain and close" method, which is more effective than vacuuming with your pool filter. By removing large debris, you're preventing it from clogging your pool filter and ensuring that your filter is working efficiently.

Final Thoughts

The waste setting on your pool filter is an essential feature that you'll want to familiarize yourself with. Whether you're draining your pool or vacuuming with the "drain and close" method, the waste setting can be an invaluable tool. Just remember to monitor your water levels when you use the waste setting and be mindful of water restrictions in your area.

Using non metallic components fiberglass pressure tanks are rapidly replacing steel tanks in numerous applications. Fiberglass vessels offer several advantages in comparison with steel vessels .
Fiberglass vessels have a mechanical and chemical resistance superior to steel . Fiberglass tanks do not rust or corrode and are able to withstand damage from many types of water treatment chemicals.
After about 5~10days ,or when the reading of the pressure gauge on the pump side of the filter has increased by about 0.2bars since the last backwash , backwash the filter as follows:
