how to put diatomaceous earth in pool filter

Author: PoolKing - Pool Sand Filter Manufacturers

.

Diatomaceous Earth, or DE, is a highly effective and natural material that can be used to filter swimming pool water, ensuring that it is clean and safe for you and your family to swim in. But many pool owners are unsure about how to properly use DE in their pool filters. In this article, we will guide you through the process of putting diatomaceous earth in your pool filter, step by step.

Understanding DE and its Benefits

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of how to put DE in your pool filter, it's important to understand what diatomaceous earth is and why it's beneficial for your pool. DE is a naturally occurring sedimentary rock that is crushed into a fine powder. When added to your pool filter, it forms a layer of microscopic particles that capture impurities and debris from the water, leaving it crystal clear and free of contaminants.

DE is one of the most effective pool filter mediums available on the market, providing superior filtration and water clarity compared to sand or cartridge filters. It's also environmentally friendly and safe to use around humans and pets.

Materials You Will Need

To get started, you will need the following materials:

- Diatomaceous earth powder

- A pool filter housing

- A filter grid assembly

- A pool filter pump

- A water hose

- A pool skimmer

Step-by-Step Guide

Now that you have all the necessary materials, it's time to get started.

Step 1: Turn off the Pool Pump

Before you begin, ensure that the pool pump is turned off. This will prevent any debris from being introduced into the pool while you work.

Step 2: Remove the Filter Grid Assembly

Next, remove the filter grid assembly from the filter housing. This will typically involve removing a few screws, depending on your specific model.

Step 3: Clean the Grid Assembly

Using a garden hose with high water pressure, rinse the filter grid assembly thoroughly to remove any debris and dirt. Be sure to inspect the grids for any cracks or damage, which could affect filter efficiency.

Step 4: Replace the Grid Assembly

Once the grid assembly has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected, it's time to replace it inside the filter housing. Make sure the grid assembly is fitted snugly and screwed in place.

Step 5: Add the DE Powder

Using a scoop or measuring cup, slowly add the recommended amount of diatomaceous earth powder into the skimmer, while the pump is running. The amount of DE needed will depend on the size of your pool filter tank and your manufacturer's instructions.

Step 6: Allow the DE to Settle

Now that the DE has been added to the filter, turn the pool pump off and allow the mixture to settle for a few hours. This will allow the DE to form a layer on the filter grids.

Step 7: Backwash the Filter

After the DE has had time to settle, it's time to backwash the filter to remove any excess debris and foreign particles that have been captured in the filter. Turn on the pump and let it run for about one minute.

Step 8: Rinse the Grid Assembly

Once the backwashing is complete, rinse the filter grid assembly again using a garden hose.

Step 9: Repeat the Process

Depending on the size of your pool and the level of usage, the process of putting DE into your pool filter will need to be repeated several times throughout the pool season to maintain optimal filtration.

Conclusion

By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your pool is maintained to the highest standard of cleanliness and safety for you and your family to enjoy. Of course, it's always best to refer to your manufacturer's instructions for specific guidance on your pool filter model, but by understanding the fundamentals of diatomaceous earth filtration, you can make sure your pool stays crystal clear all summer long.

Using non metallic components fiberglass pressure tanks are rapidly replacing steel tanks in numerous applications. Fiberglass vessels offer several advantages in comparison with steel vessels .
Fiberglass vessels have a mechanical and chemical resistance superior to steel . Fiberglass tanks do not rust or corrode and are able to withstand damage from many types of water treatment chemicals.
----It is best to replace the silica sand of sand filters every 1-2 years for the following reasons:
a During backwashing, the filtration bed volume will expand upwards by 1.2 to 1.3 times. The water flow will drive the filtration layer to flow up and down, causing the filtration material particles to collide with each other. Backwash will let the small sand evacuate.
b.Some silica sands will be welded when the acid and alkali are changed due to insufficient purity;
Therefore, the longer the time, the worse the filtering effect of the sand tank. Since backwashing will consume and take away some sand, we need to replace the sand in the sand tank within the specified period.
