how to install swimming pool pump and filter

Author: Poolking - Swimming Pool Equipment Manufacturer

Swimming pool pumps and filters are an essential aspect of pool maintenance. Without them, debris and dirt would accumulate in the water, making it hazardous for swimmers. In this article, we'll be providing a step-by-step guide on how to install swimming pool pumps and filters, including a few tips to help you get the job done.

Before we dive in, here are the five article subtitles we'll be covering:

1. Gather your equipment and choose a location

2. Install the pump and filter separately

3. Connect the pump and the filter

4. Electrical connections

5. Priming the pump and starting up

1. Gathering your equipment and choosing a location

The first step in installing a pool pump and filter is to ensure you have all the necessary equipment. You'll need the pump and filter themselves, a multiport valve, PVC piping, glue and primer, a hacksaw or pipe cutter, and Teflon tape. You should also choose a location for your pump and filter that's as close to the pool as possible. This will reduce the amount of piping you need and allow the pump to work more efficiently.

2. Installing the pump and the filter separately

Firstly, start with the pump. Place it in the location you chose and ensure it's level. Attach two lengths of PVC pipe to the pump inlet and outlet ports using the glue and primer. Once connected, leave it to dry for 24 hours.

Next, install the filter. Place it in position, attach the multiport valve and use PVC piping to connect the multiport valve to the filter inlet and outlet ports. Glue it in place and leave it to dry for 24 hours.

3. Connecting the pump and the filter

Once the pump and filter are securely installed, connect them. Use PVC piping and Teflon tape to connect the pump outlet port to the filter's inlet port. Also, connect the filter outlet port to the return line that goes back to the pool.

4. Electrical connections

After the pump and filter are connected, you can wire them to the main electrical supply. This should be done by a certified electrician who will ensure that the wiring meets local codes and is correctly earthed.

5. Priming the pump and starting up

Before turning on the pump, ensure it's properly primed. First, open the filter's air relief valve to release any trapped air. Then, fill the pump with water until it reaches the bottom of the lid opening. Finally, replace the lid and turn on the pump. Once it's running, check for any leaks or issues that might require adjustment.

In conclusion, installing a swimming pool pump and filter may seem like a daunting task, but by following the above steps, you'll have it up and running in no time. The most important thing to remember is to take your time, follow instructions carefully and seek professional help when you need it!

----It is best to replace the silica sand of sand filters every 1-2 years for the following reasons:
a During backwashing, the filtration bed volume will expand upwards by 1.2 to 1.3 times. The water flow will drive the filtration layer to flow up and down, causing the filtration material particles to collide with each other. Backwash will let the small sand evacuate.
b.Some silica sands will be welded when the acid and alkali are changed due to insufficient purity;
Therefore, the longer the time, the worse the filtering effect of the sand tank. Since backwashing will consume and take away some sand, we need to replace the sand in the sand tank within the specified period.
