Tools Required:
Before you start installing a pool filter, you will need the required tools. These tools include a Phillips screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, PVC primer and cement, Teflon tape, a hacksaw, and a utility knife.
Choosing A Location:
The location you choose for your pool filter will depend on its size and shape. You should choose a location that is easy to access and has enough space around it for maintenance. Most pool filters are installed near the pool pump, which is usually located near the pool. You should also consider factors such as shade and shelter from weather elements.
Connecting The Filter:
Once you have settled on a location, the next step is to connect the filter. The filter has three main connections- the inflow, outflow, and waste. The inflow and outflow connections are connected to the pool and the return line, respectively. The waste connection is used when it is time to backwash the filter.
Before connecting the filter, ensure that the PVC pipe is cut to the right length and has been primed and cemented. Connect the inflow, outflow, and waste pipes to the respective ports on the filter, and use Teflon tape to ensure a tight connection.
Priming The Filter:
Priming the filter involves removing air from the filter housing and verifying that the pump is properly primed. To prime the filter, you need to turn off the pool pump, remove the pump strainer cover, and fill the basket with water. Replace the strainer cover and turn the pump back on. When water begins to flow out, it means the filter is primed.
Maintaining The Pool Filter:
Regular maintenance is essential to keep the pool filter functioning correctly. Check the pressure gauge regularly to see if the filter needs cleaning. The pressure gauge will indicate the pressure within the filter. When the pressure is high, it is an indicator that the filter needs cleaning.
To clean the filter, you will need to backwash it. Backwashing is the process of reversing the flow of water through the filter to remove debris and dirt. First, turn off the pump, and then turn the multi-port valve to the backwash setting. Turn the pump back on and let it run for about 2 minutes. After backwashing, turn the valve to the rinse setting and let it run for 1 minute to clear any remaining dirt.
Conclusion:
Having a pool filter installed is essential to keeping your pool clean and healthy. By following the steps outlined above, you should be able to install your pool filter quickly and easily. Remember to maintain the filter regularly to keep it functioning correctly.
