how much do aquariums cost

Author: Poolking - Swimming Pool Equipment Manufacturer

Aquariums have become increasingly popular among households worldwide. It is a perfect way to enhance the aesthetics of a house while simultaneously calming the nerves. However, one of the most prevalent questions asked about aquariums is how much they cost, which is a valid inquiry. The ultimate cost of setting up an aquarium depends primarily on the size, type, and number of fish, plants, and accessories you wish to incorporate. Here is an article to give you a comprehensive guide on how much aquariums cost.

Factors that Affect the Cost of Aquariums

Before discussing the prices of aquariums, it is crucial to first examine the factors that affect the cost.

- Size of the Aquarium: The size of the aquarium is the most significant factor affecting the price. A larger aquarium will incur higher costs, as it will require more materials to build it.

- The Type of Fish: Different fish species have different needs and requirements; thus, they come at different costs. For example, freshwater fish is more affordable than saltwater fish. Discus, for instance, is a notoriously expensive species of fish, as they require specific water conditions, making them challenging to breed.

- Technical Equipment: The type of technical equipment needed will also add to the total cost of the aquarium. An aquarium requires lighting, heating, and filtration systems, which will escalate the overall cost, especially if you opt for high-end equipment.

- Decorations: Decorations like plants, rocks, and gravel also influence the cost of an aquarium. Adding plants and unique rocks can enhance the overall look, but it will also increase the price.

- Accessories: The cost of accessories such as air pumps, water conditioners, and food must also be factored in the total cost.

The Average Cost of Aquariums

There is no official cost of an aquarium as prices vary based on location, dealer, and several other factors. Nonetheless, the majority of the aquariums cost within the following price ranges:

1. Small Aquariums

Small aquariums are perfect for beginners and people with limited space. They are easy to maintain and require minimal technical equipment. A small tank with a capacity of 5-10 gallons can cost around $30-$100.

2. Medium Aquariums

Medium-sized aquariums can range from 15-40 gallons, and they require additional equipment to maintain its suitable environment. You can expect to pay approximately $100-$400 for a medium-sized aquarium.

3. Large Aquariums

Large aquariums range from 75-200 gallons and require more technical equipment to maintain its environment. The cost of a large aquarium can start from $500 and go up to $2,000.

4. Saltwater Aquariums

Saltwater aquariums require more technical equipment than freshwater tanks, making them more expensive. Expect to pay $1,000-$10,000 for a 100-gallon saltwater tank.

5. Custom Aquariums

Custom aquariums are tailored according to the client's specifications; hence their costs can vary significantly. The total cost will depend on the size of the tank, the technical equipment needed, and additional requirements.

Conclusion

Having an aquarium in your home has numerous benefits, including reducing stress and promoting relaxation. The cost of setting up an aquarium depends on various factors, as discussed earlier. To help minimize the costs, it is advisable to start with a small aquarium and gradually upgrade as you gain the experience to maintain larger tanks.

Using non metallic components fiberglass pressure tanks are rapidly replacing steel tanks in numerous applications. Fiberglass vessels offer several advantages in comparison with steel vessels .
Fiberglass vessels have a mechanical and chemical resistance superior to steel . Fiberglass tanks do not rust or corrode and are able to withstand damage from many types of water treatment chemicals.
----It is best to replace the silica sand of sand filters every 1-2 years for the following reasons:
a During backwashing, the filtration bed volume will expand upwards by 1.2 to 1.3 times. The water flow will drive the filtration layer to flow up and down, causing the filtration material particles to collide with each other. Backwash will let the small sand evacuate.
b.Some silica sands will be welded when the acid and alkali are changed due to insufficient purity;
Therefore, the longer the time, the worse the filtering effect of the sand tank. Since backwashing will consume and take away some sand, we need to replace the sand in the sand tank within the specified period.
