how backwash pool filter

Author: Poolking - Swimming Pool Equipment Manufacturer

Introduction:

Maintaining a swimming pool requires a lot of time and effort. A backwash pool filter is a crucial component in keeping your pool clean and safe for use. The filter works by trapping dirt, debris, and other impurities, ensuring that your pool water remains clear and sparkling. In this article, we will explain how to backwash your pool filter to keep your pool in excellent condition. We will cover everything you need to know, from why backwashing is necessary, to the step-by-step process of backwashing your pool filter.

Why Backwashing is Necessary:

The pool filter works by trapping dirt, debris, and other impurities from the water as it flows through the system. Over time, these impurities build up, and the filter becomes clogged. A clogged filter can not only reduce the efficiency of your pool system but also make your pool water cloudy and uninviting. Backwashing the pool filter is necessary to remove these impurities and ensure it works at peak efficiency.

When to Backwash Your Pool Filter:

The frequency of backwashing your pool filter depends on how frequently you use your pool and how dirty it becomes. Generally, it's recommended that you backwash your pool filter every two weeks or as needed. If you notice that your pool water is cloudy or that your pump is losing pressure, it's time to backwash your pool filter.

How to Backwash Your Pool Filter:

It's an easy process that can be done in a few simple steps.

Step 1: Turn off the pump - The first step is to turn off the pool pump to stop water from entering the filter.

Step 2: Locate the multiport valve - The multiport valve is a crucial component of the pool filter system. It is the valve that controls the flow of water through the filter. Locate it and turn it to the BACKWASH position.

Step 3: Turn on the pump - Once the multiport valve is in the backwash position, turn the pool pump back on.

Step 4: Wait for the water to run clear - Allow the water to run through the filter and out of the backwash line. Keep an eye on the backwash line to determine when the water is running clear.

Step 5: Turn off the pump - When the water runs clear, turn off the pool pump.

Step 6: Rinse the filter - Turn the multiport valve to the RINSE position and turn on the pump again. This step ensures that any loose debris is removed from the system.

Step 7: Return the multiport valve to the FILTER position - Once the filter has been rinsed, turn the multiport valve to the FILTER position.

Conclusion:

Maintaining a clean pool is essential to ensure that you and your family can enjoy it safely. Backwashing your pool filter is a simple process that can make all the difference in your pool's condition. Follow the above steps to backwash your pool filter, and you'll enjoy a sparkling clean pool all summer long.

----It is best to replace the silica sand of sand filters every 1-2 years for the following reasons:
a During backwashing, the filtration bed volume will expand upwards by 1.2 to 1.3 times. The water flow will drive the filtration layer to flow up and down, causing the filtration material particles to collide with each other. Backwash will let the small sand evacuate.
b.Some silica sands will be welded when the acid and alkali are changed due to insufficient purity;
Therefore, the longer the time, the worse the filtering effect of the sand tank. Since backwashing will consume and take away some sand, we need to replace the sand in the sand tank within the specified period.
