How to Open Hayward Pool Filter
Do you own a Hayward pool filter but have been struggling to open it for maintenance? It can be frustrating when you have the right tools, but it still seems impossible to open. Fortunately, we have got you covered with a step-by-step guide on how to open a Hayward pool filter.
1. Preparation
Before beginning the process, ensure that you have all the necessary tools: a Phillip head screwdriver, a flat-head screwdriver, a 10mm socket wrench, Teflon lubricant, and a clean rag. You need to have these tools readily available since the process may vary depending on the model you have.
2. Turn off the pump.
It is crucial to turn off the pool pump before opening the pool filter. When the pump is off, the water flow will stop, making it easy to access the filter’s parts. This step is especially relevant if you're carrying out maintenance or cleaning the filter.
3. Remove the Pool Pump Cover
The pool pump cover is the first part to take off when opening a Hayward pool filter. Begin by unscrewing the cover’s retention screws using the Phillip head screwdriver. Once unscrewed, you need to lift the pump cover carefully from the top of the lid. If you have a pool pump with a motor, make sure to keep the motor screws because they’re essential in securing the motor in place after maintenance.
4. Remove the Locking Knob
The locking knob is responsible for holding the Hayward pool filter lid in place. To remove the knob, hold the filter tank and turn the knob clockwise. Once loose, turn the knob counterclockwise until it comes off. You should then set it aside in a safe place for reuse during assembly.
5. Open the Hayward Pool Filter Lid
Using a flat-head screwdriver, insert it into the filter’s slots and rotate it underneath the clamp band. Ensure that you release all the tension from the clamp band by sticking the screwdriver throughout it. When there is no pressure from the band, use your hands to pull the lid out of the filter housing.
6. Clean the Hayward Filter
After opening the filter, you can carry out the necessary maintenance, such as cleaning the filer elements. The filter might have debris, dirt or even broken elements plugging the water flow. Remove all the debris, and clean it thoroughly. While doing this, inspect any damages to the Hayward pool filter parts that might require replacements.
7. Re-install the Hayward Pool Filter
Re-installing the Hayward pool filter is a simple process that follows the reverse order of removing the parts. You need to ensure that you tighten all the bolts and knots properly to avoid water leaks. To smooth out the process reduce the metal to metal friction by applying some Teflon lubricant.
Conclusion
Opening and maintaining your Hayward pool filter doesn’t have to be a frustrating task. Follow the above steps to open and maintain your pond filter, and you'll find the task easy to undertake. Remember to always turn off the pool pump before opening the filter’s parts and to use the appropriate tools for dismantling the filter.
