How to Change Sand in Triton II Pool Filter

If you're a pool owner, you know that regular maintenance is necessary to keep your pool clean and functioning properly. One important aspect of pool maintenance is changing the sand in your pool filter. If you have a Triton II pool filter, the process is relatively simple. In this article, we'll walk you through the process of changing the sand in your Triton II pool filter.

What You'll Need

Before beginning the process, you'll need to gather a few supplies. Here's what you'll need:

- Replacement sand (2-3 bags depending on the size of your filter)

- Filter cleaner

- Handheld scoop

- Garden hose

- Towels

Step 1: Turn Off the Pool Pump

The first step in changing the sand in your Triton II pool filter is to turn off the pool pump. This is an important safety step. You should never attempt to change the sand while the pump is running.

Step 2: Remove the Filter Clamp

Next, locate the filter clamp and remove it. This can usually be done by loosening a few screws. Once the clamp is removed, you should be able to lift the filter lid off of the filter tank.

Step 3: Remove the Old Sand

Using a handheld scoop, carefully remove the old sand from the filter tank. Be sure to dispose of the old sand in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. Take care not to damage the filter laterals or standpipe while removing the old sand.

Step 4: Clean the Filter Tank

Once all of the old sand has been removed, it's time to clean the filter tank. Use a filter cleaner to remove any dirt, debris, or algae that may have accumulated inside the tank. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose until the water runs clear.

Step 5: Add New Sand

Now it's time to add the new sand. This is a process that is best done slowly and carefully. Start by adding a layer of sand to the bottom of the filter tank. Use your hand to spread the sand out evenly. Continue adding sand in layers until the tank is filled to the appropriate level.

Step 6: Replace the Filter Lid

Once the tank is filled with new sand, it's time to replace the filter lid. Be sure to position the lid correctly and secure it with the filter clamp.

Step 7: Start the Pump

Now it's time to turn the pool pump back on. Allow the pump to run for a few minutes to circulate the water and distribute the new sand evenly throughout the filter tank.

Step 8: Backwash the Filter

After the pump has run for a few minutes, it's time to backwash the filter. This process helps to remove any fine particles from the sand and ensures that the filter is working properly. To backwash the filter, turn the pump off and switch the valve to the backwash position. Turn the pump back on and allow it to run for a few minutes until the water runs clear. Switch the valve back to the filter position and turn the pump back on.

Step 9: Rinse the Filter

Once the filter has been backwashed, it's important to rinse it thoroughly. Switch the valve to the rinse position and turn the pump back on. Allow the pump to run for a few minutes until the water runs clear. Switch the valve back to the filter position and turn the pump back on.

Step 10: Enjoy Your Clean Pool

Now that you've successfully changed the sand in your Triton II pool filter, it's time to sit back, relax, and enjoy your clean pool. Remember to perform regular maintenance on your pool and filter to keep them in top condition.
